The Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) was enforced by the European Union, which took effect on 1 July 2006. The directive standardizes material and technical process in the manufacturing of electronical products for the better of human health and the enviroment. RoHS directive restricts the use of six hazardous materials, namely Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipments. Those inlcude domestic appliance such as refrigirator, laundy machine, micro-wave oven, air conditioner, vacume cleaner, heater,etc; consumer electronics such as audio-visual products, DVD, CD, TV reciever, IT products, digital products; communication products, etc; and power tools, electric toys and medical electronical equipments.
