The oxygen generator operates on pressure swing adsorption (PSA) principle to produce continuous stream of high purity oxygen from compressed air with zeolite molecular sieve (ZMS) at room temperature. Nitrogen, carbon dioxide and other gases are preferentially adsorbed by the ZMS, allowing oxygen to pass through. Usually, smaller oxygen generators use PSA technology, that is, adsorbing under 4 8 bars and desorbing at atmospheric pressure. The bigger ones use VPSA technology, which adsorbs around 0.3 bar and desorbs in the vacuum so that the power consumption falls to 0.45kW/Nm3. PSA oxygen generators contain single, two, three or more adsorbent vessels, but the majority of them contain two vessels. With promotion of LIX molecular sieve, the oxygen capacity of adsorbent increased and the consumption is lower currently.
