Copper-Clad Aluminum Conductor Power Cable

DC resistivity: the resistivity of copper-clad aluminum conductor is about 1.5 times greater than that of copper conductor, while the weight of copper conductor is 2 times heavier than that of copper-clad aluminum conductor has the same resistance on condition that the frequency is higher than 5MHz compared with the copper conductor whose cross section area is the same. During the operation of 50MHz power cable, the Kelvin effect and proximity effect become more and more significant in the realm of 150mm2 or above. As the technique develops, the higher harmonic current and the energy would access into the power system, therefore, the higher harmonic voltage would also be generated in the system impedance accordingly, and this changes the wave forms and increase the loss of power system, then increase the thermal value of the conductor; additionally, the cable would enlarge the harmonic, and this will certainly generate over voltage that damages the cable head at the joint. We found that the copper-clad aluminum conductor can reduce the resistance generated by the higher harmonic. On other occasions, we could make the copper-clad aluminum/copper composite conductor fulfill the requirements of DC resistance through increasing the volume of copper in a single copper-clad aluminum cord and adopting the relevant technical treatments.
