Characteristics Basalt’s essential constituent minerals are silica, aluminium oxide, ferric oxide, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide (small amount of potassium oxide and sodium oxide), including the most content is silica, about accounting for 40%-50%.Basalt is usually black, dark grey or dark green. Due to it has a fine-grained structure, its ratio is heavier than granite, limestone, sandstone, and shale. Basalt is the best base for developing railway and highway transportation. 5 Based on frothy scoria and crinkled characteristics, some artists use basalt to construct rockery in gardens, or sculpted into little potted landscape.
