English name : Astragalus membranaceus,Milk-Vetch Root Latin name : RADIX ASTRAGALI Source :Dried root of Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch)Bge.var.mongholicus(Bge.)Hsiao ,or Astralus membranaceus (Fisch.)Bge.(Fam.Leguminosae) Actions & Indications:Tonifying qi strengthening the superficial resistance ,inducing diuresis ,removing toxic substances ,promoting discharge of pus and tissue regenration .It is indicated for lassitude due to qi deficiency ,poor appetite and loose stools ,chronic diarrhea and prolapse of rectum due to sinking of qi of the middle energizer ,hematuria ,uterine bleeding ,spontaneous sweating due to exterior deficiency to burst or heal ,slow healing long after ulceration of carbuncles ,sallow complexion due to blood deficiency ,diabetes due to internal heat ;proteinuria due to chronic nephritis ,and diabetes .For tonifying qi of middle energizer ,it should be stir-bakes with honey ,used for lassitude ,poor appetite and loose stools .
