Aluminum Nitride(AlN)
Aluminum Nitride (AlN) is a covalently-bonded ceramic, is synthesized from the abundant elements aluminium and nitrogen, atomic crystal, a diamond-like nitrate, hexagonal crystal system, non-toxic, white or grey-white, theoretic bulk density 3.26g/cm3. AlN is stable in inert atmospheres at temperatures over 2000°C. It exhibits high thermal conductivity but is, uniquely, a strong dielectric. This unusual combination of properties makes AlN a critical advanced material for many future applications in optics, lighting, electronics and renewable energy. Coraynic has expertise in powder processing procedures required to yield high purity AlN with excellent thermal properties.
AlN ceramic has following properties:
1)High thermal conductivity ( 280W/m.K)
(2) High electrical insulation capacity (>1.1012Ωcm)
(3) Low thermal expansion (coefficient of heat expansion)(4.5X10-6℃)Good with Si(3.5~4×10-6℃) and GaAs(6×10-6℃)

With these features, AlN ceramic is an ideal material for heat radiation and package in industries of large size IC, semiconductor module, high power IC and high power components, been widely utilized in HBLED, UVLED, RF/microwave communication, automotive, microelectronic semiconductor, image sensing.
Application:
Power Module
Due to its high thermal conductivity, high electricity resistance, excellent electricity properties (Dielectric constant, dielectric loss, bulk resistivity, dielectric strength),AlN ceramics are widely applied to large scale IC package, silicon controlled rectifier,high speed conversion module,audio frequency and microwave power amplifier, photo-electron IC module, IGBT module, etc. Power modules with AlN package have been utilized in areas such as high-speed rail, new energy automotive, rail transit, solar energy electricity, wind power, energy storage of power system, smart grid etc.
Many IGBT have to be applied to the New energy automotive control system, like its motor control system, air-condition control system, battery charging system etc.IGBT plays a very important role in the new energy automotive industry.
LED Package
AlN ceramics will replace traditional materials for high power LED substrates, becoming a preferred material for substrate.
1) High Brightness LED (HBLED): Products with high power but small sizes such as heat radiation base and frame for LED, LED headlight for car, tube core of LED etc.
With the trend to produce LED with higher efficiency and higher power, it becomes critical to source new materials which have better heat radiation capability. AlN ceramic is an optimal option!
2)UVLED (UVA, UVC): efficiency, safety, environmentally friendly and durability, UVLED is becoming more and more popular in sterilization, light-cure, lighting for plants and breeding. With the power of UV chip gets bigger and bigger, electronic devices with sterilization function will spread wider. Air conditioning in car, hospital, medical industries will accept UVLED gradually.
RF/Microwave communication
RF components are essential and vital components for telecommunication equipment. Duo to AlN ceramics properties is becoming an ideal material for RF/microwave communication industries, having solid market currently and huge potential in future.
Main applications include: Passive devices such as RF attenuators, isolators, power termination,amplifiers for audio frequency and microwave power,power dividers,couplers etc, 4G, 5G base station , optical communication heat-sink, high power wireless communication, resistance for chip,thin film circuit that are used in areas such as smart home, smart logistic, smart communication and smart traffic etc.
Automotive Electronics
To follow the trend of energy conservation and emission reduction for the automotive industry, traditional mechanical cooling pumps of motors have been switched to electronic pumps to adopt severe working conditions. ECU(Electronic Control Unit)can adjust speed and water cooling according to requirement, self-diagnosis reset function, failure production function etc. The requirement of package materials for ECU is becoming higher.
Electricity cars, hybrid vehicles developed since the 1990s by the US, Japan and Germany are equipped with electric motors, which need high power modules to control speed and DC-AC transmission. Because of high thermal conductivity (320W/m.K), good mechanic properties, erosion resistance and good electricity properties( dielectric constant,), AlN ceramics is widely applied to industrial areas for car electronic pumps, inverter, cigar lighters, sensors, ceramic motors.
Image Sensing
3D face recognition is becoming a hot-spot is the industry in recent years. Global mobile manufactures must follow the trend to capture the opportunity. 3D face recognition has a very high possibility to become a standard of the smartphone in the coming 5 years. VCSEL will become more and more popular in applications to gesture recognition and 3D sensing technology for consumer electronics.
High power VCSEL must be packaged with AlN substrate to obtain functions such as mechanic support, vertical electrical connection(insulation), high efficient heat radiation, lighting aid etc. In addition to current applications in optical communication, an optical connection, laser fuze, laser display, optical signal handling, VCSEL has huge potential in consumer electronics.
Application of VCSEL to medical and diagnosis industries is another growth point. VCSEL has better electronic efficiency than LED in application to optical neurostimulation and X-ray photographic imagery.
