Water Source Heat Pump utilizes surface water or shallow seated groundwater ( underground water, rivers and lakes) or artificially regenerated water source ( like industrial waste water, geothermal zone water, urban sewage etc.) to create a high efficient and energy-conserving green system for cooling and heating. Working Principle of Water Source Heat Pump Water Source Heat Pump creates a cooling and heating system by extracting energy from natural water. In winter, water temperature is higher than that of air, therefore, the evaporating temperature in heat pump cycle is raised to create higher energy efficiency ratio than that of air-cooled heat pump system whose efficiency is greatly hampered by defrosting. While in summer, water temperature is lower than that of air, therefore, condensing temperature in cooling situation is lowered to create a better performance than that of air-cooled type and cooling tower. In general, the efficiency of the chiller is greatly improved. Outstanding energy-saving effect In general, well-designed water source heat pump central conditioning system saves up to 40% of energy than traditional system. Water source heat pump system utilizing surface water as its cold and hot source enjoys the advantage of low initial investment, but the complexity of water regime creates more technological difficulties. Therefore, there are few successful cases in China. We applied our own-designed surface water system in Ronghu Hotel, a large building for 3 years during which time the system ran efficiently, reliably and steadily. This is the first successful case in Guangxi Province. Our Technological Advantages Before the Ronghu Hotel case, we conducted a huge amount of researches and test including referring to related literature home and abroad, solving technical problems and making technological innovations. Details are as follows: (1). The main unit is customized according to our specifications to ensure it fits into the surface water regime as well as our control requirements and the functions designed for the building. (2). The integrated system is designed to run under adverse temperature reliably and steadily. (3). Specialized water treatment to ensure the quality of the surface water meet the operating requirement of the main unit. (4). Design and control strengthens the systems capacity against freezing under extreme temperature. (5). The system applies independently designed late-model all heat recovery or system heat recovery methods to ensure cheap supply of domestic hot water while cooling in summertime, and abundant hot water supply in winter. (6). The design gives full consideration to the consumption reducing measures in all heat recovery mode. (7). The system gives full consideration to the load reducing measures during rainy seasons and flood season. Thanks to the above innovations, the surface water source heat pump central air conditioning and domestic hot water supply system, the first of its kind in Guangxi Province, runs safely, reliably and steadily for 3 years. Cooling in summer and heating in winter as well as 24-hour domestic water supply well meet the demands of the hotels operation. What worth mentioning is that the lasting chilliness in 2008, the severest in the recent five decades. Lake water temperature was as low as 2.83.1 for dozens of days. Under such extreme weather conditions, our system still ran with steadiness and high efficiency. Without auxiliary heating equipment, the system successfully guaranteed the heating and hot water service in the hotel. On top of this, the system contributed to the reception of President Hu and other government officials with excellent after service. After standing the severe test, the system proves to be viable, as a representative of most advanced technology in the surface water source heat pump. From August 2006 to July 2007, our system helped the hotel save RMB 1,309,507 in air conditioning expense, 49.5% less than its original system in the first year; and RMB 1,875,787 in the second year, 58.4% less than its traditional system. The system has not need boilers and helps the hotel save 257.4 tons diesel oil which is equivalent to 389 tons standard coal, reduce 1.011 tons carbon dioxide, 9.338 kilos sulfur dioxide, 2,723 kilos nitrogen oxide to discharge. The application of water source heat pump system in Ronghu Lake Hotel has attracted widespread attention and won recognition and praises from various sectors of society.
