Sec-butyl acetate (SBAC) is one of the four butyl acetate isomers. It is a colorless, flammable liquid with odor and it can dissolve many sorts of resin and organic matter.Normally, the property of sec-butyl acetate is similar with other butyl acetate isomers.Application: 1. Used as solvent in coating industry. As one of the new environmental solvent, Sec-butyl Acetate can be added into the old solvent mixtures to reduce the dosages of those more expensive solvents (especially the NBAC)without evident impact on solvency and volatilization speed of the mixture. By doing this, it can reduce the cost apparently. Till now, Sec-butyl Acetate is most used in the nitrocellulose lacquer, acrylic acid lacquer, polyurethane lacquer, polyester lacquer, amine and epoxy paint, ect. 2. Used as solvent in printing ink. Page 1 Many countries have released new environment standard to restrict the usage of benzyl solvents. As stipulated in HJ/T 370-2007, The content of benzyl solvent (Benzene, Toluene, Xylene, Ethyl Benzene) must be less than 1% in the lithographic ink; as stipulated in HJ/T 370-2007, The content of benzyl solvent (Toluene, Xylene, Ethyl Benzene) must be less than 0.5% in the gravure ink and flexography ink. Sec-butyl Acetate has the characteristics of lower toxicity, cheaper price, excellent solvency and moderate volatilization speed so it can replace those toxic solvents in the printing ink, which actually can reduce the cost as well as improving the quality.. 3. Used as solvent in adhesive agent. Solvency and volatility is very important for adhesive end-users. Recently, most adhesive manufacturers used mixed solvents in the production which contains too much Toluene and Xylene. These solvents will volatizes into the air and pollute the air condition and human health. However, Sec-butyl Acetate has the characteristic of excellent solvency, moderate volatilization speed and lower toxicity so it can improve the comprehensive quality of adhesives. Sec-butyl Acetate is used in many adhesives such as polyurethane, acrylic acid, phenol-formaldehyde resin, urea resin and so on. 4. Used as the reaction intermediate in the production of resin. In the process of resin production, Sec-butyl Acetate could replace those traditional solvent as a new reaction intermediate. It has the advantage of excellent solvency and good emulsification effect. So using Sec-butyl Acetate as the reaction intermediate is good for uniformly distributing the reagents and improving the transfer rate, which actually can help make full use of the materials and reduce the production cost. It can be used as reaction intermediate in many resin production such as the polyurethane, acrylic resin, alkyd resin and so on. 5. Used as a cleaning agent. Sec-butyl Acetate has excellent solvency so it can be used to form net cleaning agent, mould cleaning agent, board cleaning agent, gun cleaning agent and metal cleaning agent, ect. Moreover, the volatilization speed of Sec-butyl Acetate is faster and the toxicity is lower so that there will be less ardor left and less harmful to human’s health. 6. Used as component in diluents. Sec-butyl Acetate is soluble in most solvents such as alcohol, eather, ester, ketone and alkanes. It is the ideal component for diluents in coating, printing ink and adhesive industries because its cost is cheap and toxicity is lower.
