Characteristics Basalt’s essential constituent minerals are silica, aluminium oxide, ferric oxide, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide (small amount of potassium oxide and sodium oxide), including the most content is silica, about accounting for 40%-50%.Basalt is usually black, dark grey or dark green. Due to it has a fine-grained structure, its ratio is heavier than granite, limestone, sandstone, and shale. But due to there is much frothy scoria for some basalt, weight is lost, especially it can float in water. 2.Uses 1. It is solid, sound insulation and heat insulation, so it is most commonly crushed for use as a good aggregate in light concrete of high-rise buildings. 2. Float stone is the very good abrasive material, and can be used for grinding metal and stones; 3. It can be used as filter, dryer, activator, etc in industry. 4. Basalt is the best material to repair highway, railway and airport runway. It has strong compression, low crushing value, strong corrosion resistance, asphalt sticking basalt, grinding resistance, weak in water absorbing, poor conductivity characteristics, recognized by the international world. Basalt is the best base for developing railway and highway transportation. 5 Based on frothy scoria and crinkled characteristics, some artists use basalt to construct rockery in gardens, or sculpted into little potted landscape.
