Special needles with a longer taper to minimize breakage are also available.Gauge and Dimensions on felting needles: The diameters of the various parts on a felting needle are specified in gauge(GG). The bigger the gauge number, the smaller the diameter. the exception to this is the working part of the needle, whose gauge doesnot refer to thediameter, but the triangular blade height.Nominal Length Felting Needles: The nominal length on felting needles is expressed in inches and measures the distance from inside the crank to the point. 5 inch, 4.5 inch, 4 inch, 3.5 inch, 3 inch, 2.5 inch are standard working part length dimensions. Other dimensions are also available for special applications.Standard Working Part Length on felting needles: The length of the working part is determined by the barb spacing, total number of barbs, penetration depth and the quality of the fabrics. 33mm, 30mm, 27mm, 24m, 22mm, 20mm, are standard working part length dimensions.
