An alternative to the interactive whiteboard is the interactive Projector, which is manufactured by Indesign in the end of 2009, and which can turn suitable surfaces into a virtual whiteboard. Interactive projectors work by detecting the position of an active IR light pen when it contacts the surface where the projected image is displayed. This solution allows the user to experience some of the benefits of a physical IWB. As with all IR based IWB products, this solution can suffer from problems caused by 'line of sight' between the pen and the projector receiver and also does not provide the 'mouse hover' capability found in other solutions.
