Function The payoff reel receives and holds the coils for feeding into the line. The payoff reel holds back the required tension on the strip. The payoff reel will be designed for over unwind operation. The mandrel will be supported by an outboard bearing. Features The payoff reel will be of the overhung mandrel type with a hydraulically actuated outboard bearing support and totally enclosed gear drive. The sub-base will be fabricated from heavy steel plate to form the mandrel support, gear housing, and oil reservoir. The sub-base will be mounted on machined lubricated ways with replaceable bronze wear strips. The pay off reel assembly is shifted on the slideways by a cylinder. The payoff reel mandrel will be the four-segment design. The mandrel will be turned at the 610 mm diameter. The main segments will be cast steel and will be attached to a cast steel sliding sleeve through a series of interlocking machined wedge surfaces. The segments will have a series of interlocking teeth to prevent the strip tail end from damaging the head. The segments and the sleeve will be ionic nitriding treated (NIVOX 340 or NIPRE jn4). The mandrel expand/collapse actuation will be by a hydraulic cylinder, of which the rod is directly attached to the mandrel pull rod assembly. The cylinder body is front flange mounted to the mandrel shaft. The Hydraulic power for the rotating cylinder is delivered via a hydraulic rotary union. The lubrication system will consist of a motor driven forced feed lubrication system for lubricating the gears and drive box. This system consists of a lubrication pump, which will receive the oil from the reservoir within the housing. All piping and sight gauges in connection with the lubrication system will be provided and piped as an integral part of the coil holder assembly. The drive motor and pump assembly will be mounted on the drive housing. All other points requiring infrequent lubrication will be equipped with individual grease fittings.
