Personnel responsible for selection and installation should read ASME B40.1 which is available from ASME,345 East 47th Street, NY, NY10017.The most important factors which must be considered in selecting the proper gauge are as follows: 1. Pressure The range of the gauge should be approximately twice the intended operating pressure. Avoid applying pressure beyond top of scale. 2. Vibration Excessive vibration could cause movement wear, resulting in loss of accuracy. The gauge should be isolated from the source of vibration, or a liquid filled gauge should be considered. 3. Pulsation Excessive pressure pulsation.usually evidenced by continuous rapid pointer oscillation, could result in fatigue failure of the pressure element, or rapid movement wear.A pulsation dampening device and a liquid filled gauge should be considered. 4. Temperature Excessive gauge temperature should not exceed 55(130).The gauge should be moved away from the heat source. 5. Process Materials of pressure containing parts and joints must be resistant to the process fluid. A different pressure element material, or diaphragm seal, may be required. Gauges used on high pressure gas, or on potentially hazardous services, such as Oxygen, should be carefully selected in accordance with the recommendation of asme B40.1. Consult manufacturer for additional assistance.
