Pachyrhizua angulatus, alias of the kudzu vine root, also called as dried Pueraria and Gan Pueraria, is the root block of the Pueraria lobata, a kind of the perennial vine that belongs to Leguminosae. It gets the name due to the large amount of starch contained (the starch content in fresh pueraria reaches 19 20%) Kudzu is a kind with a high yield and wide use, while the kudzu is mainly cultivated artificially with the functions of promoting Spleen Yang, expelling pathogenic factors from muscles and skin, promoting eruption, stopping diarrhea, relieving restlessness and quenching thirst, and can also be used as medicine to cure hypertension, stenocardia, gastrohelcoma, pains resulting from gastritis and so on. It is both the commonly-used traditional Chinese herbal medicine and the meal material. Pachyrhizua angulatus can be processed into arrowroot, pueraria piece, refined granular instant pueraria powder and pueraria tea; besides, the puerarin also can be extracted from it.
